NEW YORK, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 24th Sep, 2026) The UAE Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council (FNC) to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), headed by Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Division, participated in the IPU Parliamentary Meeting on the occasion of the UN General Assembly 2026, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Tulia Ackson, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, stated that the Pact for the Future, adopted in September 2024, reinforces the value of multilateral cooperation for peace and development, emphasizing the need for enhanced parliamentary engagement in UN processes and the implementation of UN agreements to ensure that people's voices are reflected in the organization's work.

Dr. Al Nuaimi highlighted the importance of strengthening parliamentary participation within the United Nations, advocating for the inclusion of parliamentarians in official national delegations to enable their direct and effective contribution to international discussions and multilateral decision-making. He called upon the IPU to take practical steps to encourage governments to involve parliamentarians in national delegations and to raise this issue during upcoming IPU meetings. Noting that responsibility lies with both the United Nations and national parliaments, he explained that effective action is required to enhance parliamentary participation.

Dr. Al Nuaimi observed that fundamental political, economic, and demographic shifts have occurred since the UN Charter was established in 1945, necessitating an evolution of the international system to better keep pace with changes, serve humanity, protect shared values, and contribute to a brighter future.
