Former Manchester United and England centre-back Chris Smalling signs for Porto

BBC Sport reports that Chris Smalling has joined Portuguese league leaders Porto. The 36-year-old former Manchester United defender, who last played for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Fayha, has signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for a further year.

Previously linked with a move to Rangers, Smalling's extensive career includes spells at Fulham, Roma (where he won the UEFA Conference League under José Mourinho in 2022), and, most notably, Manchester United, where he lifted five major trophies, including two Premier League titles. He also represented England 31 times.

Smalling's move to Porto comes as the club enjoys a strong start to the season, having won all seven league games and leading the Portuguese Primeira Liga by five points.
