From Independence to Shared Prosperity: Vietnam's Quest for Stronger Ties with Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Sep, 2026) Ambassador of Viet Nam to Pakistan, Pham Anh Tuan, has expressed confidence in further strengthening friendship and cooperation with Pakistan. Addressing a reception celebrating the 81st Anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Tuan highlighted key milestones in his country's journey.
"Over the past 81 years, generations of Vietnamese have devoted their efforts and sacrifices to defending our independence, building our nation, and striving for a better future," he stated.
The Ambassador noted the significant transformation brought about by the Renovation Policy launched in 1986, which elevated Vietnam from a lower-middle-income country to a dynamic economy deeply integrated into global markets.
Vietnam currently maintains diplomatic ties with 194 countries and is an active member of over 70 international and regional organizations, signifying its commitment as a friend and reliable partner.
Economic Achievements:
Tuan highlighted Vietnam's impressive economic growth:
- In 2025, the Vietnamese economy grew by more than 8 percent—its highest rate in over 15 years.
- GDP exceeded US$514 billion and GDP per capita surpassed US$5,000.
- Foreign direct investment reached nearly US$40 billion.
- Total import-export turnover crossed US$900 billion for the first time.
- Vietnam is emerging as a hub for high technology, digital industries, and global supply chains.
Future Vision:
Referring to the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Tuan noted that his country has set strategic goals for sustainable development with a focus on innovation, digital transformation, and economic growth. Vietnam aims to achieve developing country status with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income nation by 2045.
Bilateral Relations:
The Ambassador emphasized the strong bonds between Vietnam and Pakistan, stating that:
- This year marks 54 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
- Friendship and cooperation have flourished across politics, trade, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
