For Pari Paro, the journey from Sargodha to becoming a familiar name among millions of social media users has been shaped by performance, persistence, and a determination to build her own identity in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. A transgender Pakistani performer known for her work as a dancer, actress, and stage performer, Pari Paro began her career through live performances before social media opened the door to an even wider audience.
Originally from Sargodha, Pari Paro spent years performing at weddings, private events, and stage shows in different parts of Pakistan. Live performance gave her an opportunity to develop her confidence, connect with audiences, and establish herself as a performer. She reflects, "The stage gave me the confidence to express myself and connect with people."
Her journey wasn't limited to one city or one type of audience. Through diverse performances, she gradually gained recognition among a wider audience who followed live entertainment. "I kept working and performing because I believed that my talent could take me forward," she says.
The growth of TikTok brought a significant shift in her career. As short-form videos gained popularity in Pakistan, Pari Paro began sharing dance performances, entertainment clips, and more on the platform. What once required a physical stage could now reach viewers across the country through a mobile phone.
Her TikTok account, @pariparoofficial909, boasts over 3.6 million followers, giving her a substantial digital audience. This growth didn't happen overnight. Her existing experience as a performer, combined with social media's reach, helped her build recognition among a new generation of viewers.
Reflecting on the impact of social media, Pari Paro notes, "TikTok gave me a chance to reach people who may never have seen me perform on a stage. My performance could reach someone sitting in another city." For her, the platform became an extension of the stage rather than a replacement for it.
Her identity as a transgender woman has also been part of this journey, one in which she has continued to pursue a career in entertainment and maintain a public presence. Rather than allowing her background to define the limits of her career, she has focused on performance and connecting with her audience. "I wanted people to recognize me for my work and my performance," she expresses.
The difference between performing on stage and creating content for TikTok is significant, but Pari Paro sees a connection between the two. A live performance allows an artist to experience an audience's reaction immediately, while social media can take that performance far beyond the original venue. "On stage, you can feel the audience in front of you, but on social media, you can reach so many more people."
