Governor Kundi Directs Committee to Resolve Withholding Sales Tax Issue
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, on Friday, directed the formation of a committee comprising officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Department to address the issue of withholding sales tax deductions on purchases made by government departments.
He issued these instructions during a high-level meeting held at the Governor House, focusing on the deduction of withholding sales tax on goods procured by government entities. The meeting, attended by Adviser to Chief Minister on Finance, Muzammil Aslam, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, and officials from various departments, discussed the federal withholding sales tax applicable to government purchases. Legal and financial aspects, existing procedures, and challenges faced by departments were all reviewed.
Governor Kundi emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional and legal principles regarding withholding taxes. He suggested that the committee, consisting of FBR and Finance Department officials, should work towards finding a practical solution, aligning with practices in other provinces.
