Commissioner Lasbela Division Saira Atta on Friday stated that the incumbent provincial government is taking practical steps to develop Balochistan across various sectors for the public's welfare.

She made this statement during a visit to Kanraj Tehsil in Lasbela District.

Accompanied by DC Lasbela Humaira Baloch, DIG Lasbela Division Abdul Qayyum Pitafi, and SP Lasbela Najibullah Pindrani, the Commissioner toured the Duddar Project Site Camp Office in Tehsil Kanraj.

Chinese officials welcomed the Commissioner and other administrative officers upon their arrival. They provided a detailed briefing and presentation on the project, covering overall performance, production, activities, and other relevant aspects.

The Commissioner learned that the Duddar Zinc and Lead Project is Pakistan’s first and largest underground metal mining project, located in Kanraj Tehsil, Lasbela District, for extracting zinc and lead in Balochistan. This project is a joint venture between Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) and the Government of Balochistan.

Operated by MCC Huaye Duddar Mining Company (MHD), it is the first fully operational underground metal mining project in Pakistan’s history. The extracted material undergoes cleaning to produce zinc and lead concentrates, which are then exported or processed.

The Commissioner, along with the DIG and other officials, reviewed security, law and order, safety arrangements, and CSR initiatives at the project site. They addressed various concerns and assured the project management of full administrative support from the district administration and police.

Saira Atta expressed satisfaction with the project's progress and the district administration's performance.
