Head of the Pakistan Ulema Council and Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Religious Harmony and the Middle East, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, has issued a fatwa against Yemen’s Houthis, labeling them as non-Muslims and terrorists. He stated that they have no connection with Islam.
Addressing an international conference of global scholars and religious leaders in Saudi Arabia, Ashrafi claimed that the Houthis are terrorists with no affiliation to Islam. He asserted that anyone opposing or attacking Saudi Arabia is an enemy of Islam and all Muslims.
He vehemently rejected reports portraying the conflict in Yemen as a Shia-Sunni or sectarian dispute, emphasizing it was neither a country-to-country nor sect-against-sect war. Instead, he characterized it as a struggle against a terrorist group imposing itself on innocent people, calling any attempt to label it sectarian as incorrect.
Ashrafi reiterated Pakistan's unwavering support for the security of the Holy Mosques, stating that safeguarding Saudi Arabia's land is Pakistan's red line. He expressed that both the Pakistani government and its armed forces, along with senior religious scholars and patriotic citizens, stand firmly by Saudi Arabia.
He further promised that under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Pakistan will continue to offer comprehensive assistance in confronting challenges faced by Saudi Arabia.
