Harry and Meghan change children’s school over security concerns
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have changed their children’s school only days after they first started, due to security concerns about the school run. The schools’ names remain undisclosed, but it is understood that the Sussexes’ private security team had raised issues with the distance and heavy traffic on the original route.
A source close to the couple stated: "The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care, and effort they have shown their family." They added, "This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."
It has also been revealed that the Sussexes will undergo a review of their publicly-funded security upon their return to live in the UK. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) is set to reconsider Prince Harry and Meghan’s level of police protection, taking into account their new residential status rather than temporary visitors.
The committee will assess potential risks at their new home and the types of trips taken by the family, including regular travel routes and school runs. This comes after Prince Harry mounted an unsuccessful legal challenge over his security when visiting from the US.
With their return to the UK, a so-called Risk Management Board will now evaluate threats against them and determine the appropriate level of police protection required. No final decision has been made at this stage.
The review includes security for Archie, aged seven, and Lilibet, aged five, who switched schools due to the security issue. This is the first such security review for Meghan since she and Prince Harry ceased being working royals in 2020.
