Hindu Community Celebrates Raksha Bandhan With Traditional Fervour in Attock Cantonment
The Hindu community residing in Attock Cantonment celebrated Raksha Bandhan, also known as Rakhi Bandhan, with religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm on Saturday. Around 44 Hindu families visited one another’s homes to celebrate the festival, strengthening bonds of love, affection, and family ties.
On the occasion, sisters tied colourful and decorative Rakhis around their brothers’ wrists, symbolising love, protection, sincerity, and mutual commitment. Brothers, in turn, presented gifts and sweets to their sisters.
Pandit Sarwan Kumar of Valmiki Temple, Attock Cantonment, explained that Raksha Bandhan holds various legends and traditions but is fundamentally a festival of love, protection, family bonds, and loyalty. He noted that while the Rakhi is traditionally tied between brothers and sisters, some regions and families also observe it among close relatives or symbolically.
The Sikh community also participated in the festivities, with many Hindu and Sikh families from Attock and nearby areas visiting Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal. This tradition is linked to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, as per Sikh belief, where his sister tied a Rakhi on his wrist.
Pandit Sarwan Kumar emphasised the importance of peace, mutual respect, and compassion over war. He appreciated the government and local administration for their support, stating that the Hindu community faced no difficulties during the celebrations. He concluded by expressing the community’s prayers for Pakistan’s development, prosperity, peace, and stability.
