Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s hijrah to Madinah lays the foundation for peaceful Islamic rule and a model society based on justice and mutual coexistence.
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - August 25, 2026) Rabiul Awal marks the joyous celebration of the arrival of the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who transformed world history through non-violent propagation of Islam.
"The Hijrah (migration)," stated Dr. Abdul Ghafoor, former Dean of Sheikh Zayd Islamic Centre at University of Peshawar, "was not merely a physical relocation but the birth of a new era for islam and the Muslim Ummah."
For over a decade, Muslims in Makkah faced brutal oppression, injustices, social boycott, and threats to life due to their faith. The Hijrah provided them with the chance to live and worship freely.
"Madinah (then known as Yathrib) welcomed the holy Prophet (PBUH) with love and respect," continued Dr. Ghafoor. "This gesture laid the foundation for a just and inclusive society."
He noted that one of Muhammad's (PBUH) earliest actions in Madinah was to establish Masjid Nabvi, the first mosque, which became a center for spiritual and social gatherings. He also forged a historic bond of brotherhood between the Muhajirun (migrants from Makkah) and the Ansar (Helpers), fostering unity, compassion, and mutual support.
Professor Dr. Hifazatullah Khan, from the Islamic Studies Department at Islamia College Peshawar, emphasized that in Madinah, Muhammad (PBUH) established the first Islamic state based on divine guidance and social justice.
"He drafted the Constitution of Madinah," Dr. Khan explained, "which guaranteed freedom of religion to all communities, setting a precedent for peaceful coexistence studied by scholars today."
