Hundreds remember Heaton Park synagogue attack victims at memorial event

Heaton Park Synagogue Attack Memorial Service: 800 Attend

BBC News

A memorial event for the victims and survivors of last year's Heaton Park synagogue attack brought together about 800 people, including Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis and Communities Secretary Angela Rayner.

On 2 October 2025, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby were killed, and three others injured, as they defended their place of worship from attacker Jihad al-Shamie.

The service, held at the synagogue in Manchester at 8:00 PM BST, featured speeches from relatives of the bereaved, survivors, Rabbi Daniel Walker, Raphi Bloom, and Yoni Finlay.

King Charles III sent a message expressing his "deepest sympathy" and stating, "Hatred can never prevail over our shared humanity."

Raphi Bloom emphasized resilience and the continuation of Jewish life, asserting, "As Jews we will stand tall, united, proud, and strong." Yoni Finlay noted the heightened security measures and fears within the community.

The event marked a religious anniversary rather than the secular one in October, as per tradition.
