Governor’s rule emergency was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in accordance with the Constitution and law, and if Maulana Fazlur Rehman had been given a share, his subsequent speech would not have occurred, according to Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif. In a fiery address during a National Assembly session, he accused Maulana of creating circumstances to showcase his true political face.

Asif argued that the real issue is not honour or principles but interests. He claimed that the circumstances had been set in motion to expose Maulana’s alleged political conduct. Referring to the governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he stated that these measures were taken according to legal framework and that Maulana’s speech would not have been necessary if he had been included.

The Defence Minister accused Maulana Fazlur Rehman of using Allah, the Prophet, and Pakistan’s Constitution as tools for political gain and personal enrichment. He described Maulana’s various roles as mere manifestations of self-interest and political bargaining, advising him to reflect on his own actions.

Asif recalled Maulana’s past, including his role as opposition leader during the Musharraf era, achieved through what he termed “Nora wrestling”, and his long tenure as the chairman of the Kashmir Committee. He questioned the service Maulana had rendered to the Kashmir cause, suggesting that his privileges and protocol were inappropriate. He alleged irregularities during the Pakistan Democratic Movement government and warned that further revelations would emerge if necessary.

Asif claimed that Maulana had forgotten his past and was attacking political opponents, but asserted his own moral courage to confront his own history when speaking in Parliament. He concluded by stating that he would see Maulana off all the way to his home.
