IFHC and Ekthar Strengthen Conservation Partnerships Through Strategic Agreements at ADIHEX 2026
The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) and Ekthar Wildlife Development have signed more than 11 strategic agreements during the 23rd Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX).
These agreements include partnerships between IFHC and Reneco, an operating entity of Ekthar, as well as collaborations with national and international entities. This strengthening of cooperation supports the Sheikh Zayed Houbara Conservation Programme.
The agreements encompass:
- Species conservation and biodiversity
- Scientific research and innovation
- Knowledge exchange and capacity building
- Cultural heritage and institutional cooperation.
This portfolio reflects the complementary roles of IFHC and Ekthar within the programme, where IFHC leads on strategic priorities, international advocacy, education, and engagement while Ekthar provides scientific, technical, and operational support.
Mohamed Almotawa AlDhaheri, Acting Director-General of IFHC, emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation for long-term conservation success:
“The long-term success of conservation depends on... cooperation across institutions, sectors, and borders.”
He further noted that these agreements expand partnership opportunities, facilitating knowledge exchange, capability development, and collective action.
IFHC also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Emirates Falconers’ Club to advance houbara conservation while supporting the preservation of falconry heritage in the UAE. The partnership will focus on:
- Joint research and studies related to the houbara
- Capacity building and specialist training
- Awareness programmes for falconers and the wider community
- Combating illegal hunting and trafficking of birds
- Data collection, analysis, and information exchange.
Another MoU was signed between Abu Dhabi Nature Academy and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) to explore collaborative efforts in conservation.
