IHC Fixes September 29 for Hearing Petition Seeking Appointment of Indus Water Commissioner
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 21, 2026)
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled a hearing on September 29 for a petition seeking the appointment of a permanent Indus Water Commissioner.
According to the cause list issued by the IHC Registrar’s Office, the case will be heard after judicial vacations. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir will preside over the matter.
Previously, the court had requested a response from the Federal government regarding the unfilled position and directed the Deputy Attorney General to obtain instructions from the government.
The petitioner argued that the Indus Water Commissioner’s post has remained vacant since September 1, 2025, and emphasized the need for a permanent appointment as stipulated in Article 8 of the Indus Waters Treaty. They also highlighted India’s ongoing dam construction on the Chenab basin as a cause for concern.
The case will now be heard on September 29.
