IHC Seeks Report On PIMS Tragedy, Notices Respondents

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Sep, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the respondents on a petition seeking a Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) investigation into the PIMS tragedy and removal of the Executive Director of the hospital, directing them to submit reports and para-wise comments within 15 days.

Chief Justice, Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar issued the written order while hearing a petition seeking removal of the Executive Director PIMS following the deaths of newborn babies in a hospital fire.

According to the order, the petitioner stated that 14 newborn babies lost their lives when a fire broke out in the PIMS MCH nursery on August 26.

Petitioner Nasir Azim Khan stated that his own newborn son had died in a fire incident at PIMS in September 2025. The petitioner sought an independent inquiry into the role of the Executive Director PIMS and other responsible officials, alleging negligence, dereliction of duty and administrative failures.

The petition maintained that there was ineffective accountability of officials holding senior administrative positions and that authorities were responsible for ensuring safety, fire protection and emergency arrangements at public hospitals.

It also sought scrutiny of the appointments of the Executive Director and other officials in accordance with law, besides preservation of CCTV footage, electronic data, duty rosters and maintenance records for the purpose of investigation.

The petitioner further requested initiation of criminal and departmental proceedings against those found responsible.

The court directed the respondents to submit their reports and para-wise comments within 15 days and also ordered that the reports submitted to the Prime Minister of Pakistan be placed before the court.

Further hearing of the case has been adjourned until September 28.
