Iran Says It's Ready for US's 'Greatest Financial Offensive Ever'
Iran asserts its readiness to counter heightened sanctions following the US declaration of an "economic D-Day" against the nation. This comes as US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveils what he terms "the single greatest financial offensive ever".
"We are no longer managing the Iranian threat, we are ending it," Bessent declared. He outlines a comprehensive strategy to sever Iran's economic ties globally, threatening sanctions against any nation that continues financial dealings with Iran.
Iran's Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh counters, stating they have been "waiting for these plans for a long time" and possess a "two-year plan" to manage the situation. He emphasizes Iran's resilience, noting that neither China nor Russia have "accepted" US measures and predicts resistance from other countries.
The US campaign includes targeting five sectors:
- Digital Assets
- Technology
- Gold
- Aviation
- Shipping
Over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels have already been sanctioned by the Treasury Department. These actions aim to "tighten the noose and block every potential source of revenue" for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the wider Iranian regime.
The situation has global implications, with Iran threatening to shut down all oil exports from the region if the conflict persists. They also reiterate their warning against ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz without permission, a vital waterway for global oil trade.
