Iran has delivered a seven-day plan to the United States, and the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened if it is accepted, the Iranian foreign minister said at a press conference in New York.

NEW YORK, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Sep, 2026) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that Iran had presented a seven-day plan to the United States, proposing a path to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore maritime traffic.

During a press conference at the United Nations headquarters, Araqchi revealed that Iran had communicated the plan to the US through Qatar. According to Iranian state television, he asserted that if the US accepted the Iranian proposal, the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened within seven days.

The seven-day period would commence upon US acceptance of the plan. Araqchi noted that Iran could finalize the process within four to five days if the necessary measures were taken, leading to the opening of the Strait on the sixth day. Subsequently, on the seventh day, the US would return to the negotiating table for a final agreement.

Araqchi emphasized Iran's commitment to safe and peaceful maritime traffic, arguing that military operations, threats, blockades, or economic pressure could not restore maritime security. He declared that Iran would not succumb to pressure, threats, or intimidation and would not surrender its sovereign rights under duress.

On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session, Abbas Araqchi met with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, in New York, discussing bilateral matters. He also held meetings with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, and Omani counterpart, Al-Busaidi, focusing on regional developments.
