Islamabad Water Issues Challans to Eateries Over Grease Trap Violations

Islamabad Water has stepped up inspections of restaurants, hotels, cafes, and fast-food outlets for failing to install proper oil and grease traps or maintain them regularly. According to the department, establishments found in violation have been issued challans.

The discharge of kitchen waste, oil, and grease directly into sewerage lines is a primary cause of recurring blockages and related sanitation issues. Islamabad Water has directed all restaurants, hotels, cafes, and fast-food outlets to install appropriate oil and grease traps as per standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain them regularly. This measure aims to prevent oil, grease, and kitchen waste from entering the sewerage system, thus reducing blockages and overflows.

Enforcement will continue across the city, and legal action will be taken against establishments found non-compliant.
