Japanese Film Festival 2026 Kicks Off at Arts Council
The Event
The "Japanese Film Festival 2026" was inaugurated by the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi, in collaboration with Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, Sindh (PJCA) and the Arts Council of Pakistan. This annual event promotes Japanese culture through cinema.
Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony featured the screening of the Japanese animated film Children of the Sea, telling the story of a lonely teenage girl who forms a bond with two ocean-raised brothers, uncovering a hidden telepathic connection to the deep sea.
This year's festival showcases six films from Japan, offering diverse genres and narratives. Screenings will take place at selected venues across Karachi throughout September.
Consul General's Message
Consul General Hattori Masaru expressed his delight at the audience's enthusiasm, emphasizing the cultural value of cinema. He encouraged attendees to find meaningful connections and fresh perspectives through the festival.
Guest Speaker
Shahzeen Khan, a guest of honor and animator from The Glassworker, reflected on her journey inspired by Japanese anime and events supported by the Consulate General. She praised the Consulate's support for Pakistan's pop-culture community, particularly through initiatives like Geek Haven.
