Kashmir Chowk Underpass To Be Completed In One Month: CDA
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Oct, 2026) The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will construct the Kashmir Chowk underpass at a cost of Rs1.4 billion, with the project targeted for completion within a month, a CDA spokesman told APP on Tuesday.
The spokesman stated that the underpass is designed to alleviate congestion at Kashmir Chowk, where approximately 107,000 vehicles traverse the junction daily, particularly causing delays during peak hours.
Under the project, separate underpasses will be built for traffic from the Serena side and vehicles travelling from Faizabad towards Murree.
Additionally, four new slip roads will be constructed to enhance traffic distribution around the junction.
The spokesman revealed that around five acres of land will be incorporated into the project for road expansion and allied infrastructure. The scheme will also be integrated with the proposed expansion of lanes on the Islamabad Expressway.
According to the CDA, the project cost has been reduced to Rs1.4 billion from an initial estimate of Rs1.6 billion through cost optimization and planning.
Upon integration with planned improvements to the road network, the project is anticipated to shorten travel time between Islamabad and Rawalpindi to approximately 16 to 18 minutes.
