Key Dam Project Completed in Nowshera

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Aug, 2026) The Gul Dheri Dam, a key priority project of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Nowshera district, has been completed for irrigation purposes.

The project was executed by the Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in collaboration with line departments. The dam has been constructed on Water Khwar, located approximately half a mile northwest of Dewkhola village. Accessible via a metaled road from Akora Khattak, the site boasts:

  • Total storage capacity: 1,762 acre-feet
  • Main canal length: 9,635 feet
  • Minor canals length: 5,727 feet

These structures will irrigate 1,200 acres of cultivable land.

Officials stated that the completion of Gul Dheri Dam will:

  • Provide irrigation facilities to farmers in Nowshera district.
  • Significantly increase agricultural productivity.
  • Generate employment opportunities at the local level and boost the rural economy.
  • Improve water management, reducing flood risks and contributing to ecological balance.

The provincial government considers this project a milestone in its development strategy for the district.
