Khawaja Asif Stresses Effective Implementation of PIMS Inquiry Report

Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday emphasized the necessity for efficient implementation of the inquiry report into the tragic PIMS fire incident. He stated that those accountable for negligence must be held responsible and permanent measures taken to prevent similar occurrences.
Addressing the National Assembly, the minister mentioned that the federal government had offered Rs5 million compensation to each affected family. He explained while no compensation could replace the loss of life, a committee had been established to investigate the incident, identify its causes, and assign responsibility.
Asif noted that inquiries into major incidents often drag on without reaching conclusive outcomes, causing the public to lose interest. He urged for a more proactive approach, treating such incidents as opportunities for accountability and corrective actions to prevent future tragedies.
The minister highlighted the role of Parliament in ensuring transparency and accountability, stating that the inquiry committee's report should be presented before the relevant parliamentary forum for further scrutiny. He encouraged members to actively participate in the committee meeting, pose questions, and offer suggestions for a thorough investigation.
Additionally, Asif called for open proceedings, ensuring the public's awareness of Parliament's efforts to hold accountable those responsible for negligence. The Deputy Speaker urged all members from different political parties to attend the scheduled health committee meeting on Monday and actively engage in its activities.
