PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - September 3, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure, Privileges and Implementation of Government Assurances directed government departments to ensure prompt resolution of public grievances during its meeting on Thursday. The committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi, reviewed privilege motions raised by MPAs and the implementation of assurances given by various departments.

Key Discussions:

• Power Outages in Karak: A detailed discussion was held on a privilege motion regarding prolonged power outages in Karak and alleged inappropriate behavior by PESCO officials. The committee expressed concern over the hardships faced by residents and directed PESCO authorities to address the issue immediately.

• Electricity Theft: The PESCO Chief Engineer assured the committee that complaints from lawmakers would be resolved, detailing measures to introduce modern metering systems to combat electricity theft. The committee emphasized fair action against power thieves, protecting innocent consumers.

• Privilege Motions and Departmental Absence: Privilege motions concerning the Commissioner Bannu and the Police Department were also discussed. Due to the absence of relevant officials, these matters were deferred until the next meeting.

• Policing and Respect: The committee called for courteous and responsible behavior by police officers towards the public and elected representatives.

Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi emphasized the need for effective follow-up on Assembly floor issues and government assurances, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and close coordination between public representatives and government institutions for timely problem resolution.
