KP CM Orders Reforms to Make Sehat Card Plus More Effective
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, on Thursday directed relevant authorities to formulate a comprehensive plan for improving and sustaining the Sehat Card Plus program, emphasizing that providing quality healthcare to the people is the government’s ultimate goal.
During a meeting on the Sehat Card Plus program, the CM reviewed proposed reforms including:
- Possible inclusion of basic health units (BHUs), rural health centers (RHCs), and Category-D hospitals operating round-the-clock.
- Expanding coverage for costly medical treatments and gradually increasing service rates under the program.
- Implementing stricter measures to prevent misuse of Sehat Card facilities, with hospitals required to follow a prescribed code of conduct.
- Revamping BHUs and district headquarters hospitals to provide quality healthcare at people’s doorsteps.
He described Sehat Card Plus as a significant public welfare initiative and called for measures to enhance its efficiency. The meeting also discussed:
- Strengthening the Social Health Protection Unit.
- Introducing an optional top-up health package for government employees under Sehat Card.
CM Afridi noted that health and education are top priorities for the provincial government, aligning with Imran Khan’s vision. He allocated substantial resources to provide quality healthcare facilities. He instructed departments to address issues promptly, without delays or obstacles, and prepare a detailed action plan on proposed reforms through mutual consultation. Another meeting will be held next week to finalize proposals and determine an effective course of action.
