KP Wildlife Dept Allows Live Capturing Of Cranes From Sept 1 To October 15
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Sep, 2026) The Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has allowed live capture of cranes only through traditional methods, while strict action will be taken against catching cranes using electronic devices, shooting, or nets.
According to the notification, crane capturing is permitted for a period of one and a half month, from September 1 to October 15, 2026. A quota of 100 camps has been set for crane hunting in different districts of the province, with each camp allowed to capture a maximum of 15 birds alive in a season.
Only common cranes and demoiselle cranes will be allowed to be caught under these rules, and hunting or capturing other birds alive will not be permitted.
There will be a complete ban on crane hunting in specific areas, including the Kurram River, Lakki Marwat Special Refuge, and Zarmilan. Camps and quotas have been set to zero in these prohibited areas.
Permits will be issued only to residents of authorized districts.
Cranes will be allowed to be caught alive only through traditional methods. Strict action will be taken against:
- Using electronic devices
- Shooting
- Nets
It is mandatory to dismantle the camp and register the cranes at the end of the hunting season. The hunting of cranes will be banned after October 15, and birds will be confiscated in case of violation.
The camp permit fee is Rs 15,000, while the annual ownership fee for cranes is Rs. 400 per bird. The official value of demoiselle cranes is Rs 7,000 and that of common cranes is Rs 13,000.
Violation of the rules will result in:
- Cancellation of the license
- Blacklisting of the hunter for five years
- Action against the camp leader, along with the hunter, for illegal hunting
The use of cranes for commercial purposes will not be allowed. Wildlife officials have stated that violations will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
