Leaving the technical area? Arteta has the receipts

Mikel Arteta: Arsenal Boss Tracking Premier League Managers' Touchline Transgressions

BBC Sport reports on Mikel Arteta's peculiar fascination with tracking managers who leave their technical areas during matches. The Arsenal boss, who has been booked twice this season for the same offense, claims to have a detailed record of other Premier League managers' transgressions, some of which he believes are unpunished.

"I do have to be careful. They should put sensors there... There are managers who have the record in the league, 36 times in 10 minutes [they] leave the touchline - no yellows."

Arteta jokingly suggests that some managers are getting away with more frequent forays outside the technical area than he is, and promises to expose them with his "massive storage of images."

While the identity of the manager with the most such incidents remains a mystery, a 2025 BBC Sport study indicates that Aston Villa's Unai Emery spends the most time outside his technical area, potentially making him a prime suspect.

Arteta's humorously menacing pursuit of this record highlights the absurdity of the situation, but also underscores the importance of adhering to the rules, even on the sidelines.
