Lumpy Skin Disease Cases Reported, Situation Under Control: Official

Director Livestock Rawalpindi Division, Dr. Naveed Sehar Zaidi, stated that a few cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) have been reported across all districts of Rawalpindi and Punjab. However, he assured that the situation is fully under control and livestock department staff is actively working to prevent the disease's spread.

According to Dr. Zaidi, the severity of LSD is significantly reduced (70-80%) in animals that have been vaccinated. He encouraged livestock farmers to prioritize timely vaccination and avoid generating unnecessary fear. He also appealed for cooperation with Livestock Department teams and immediate isolation of infected animals to curb the disease's transmission.

The ring vaccination method, implemented by the department, involves vaccinating 300-600 animals surrounding an infected one to prevent further transmission. Veterinary Disease Diagnostic Laboratory is also actively involved, collecting samples and conducting diagnostic tests alongside field teams.

The Livestock Department continues to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to contain the disease's spread.
