Major gangland figure Steven Daniel arrested in organised crime raid
BBC Scotland News reports that Steven ‘Bonzo’ Daniel, a prominent figure in Scottish gangland, was arrested during a police raid early Wednesday morning. He was taken into custody at approximately 06:00 from his home in Robroyston, Glasgow, on charges related to serious and organized crime, firearms, and drugs offenses.
Daniel is the alleged leader of the Daniel crime family, which has been embroiled in a violent feud with the Lyons family for 25 years.
This arrest is part of Operation Venetic, a significant UK-wide effort that has dismantled several gangs.
Assistant Chief Constable Dave Ferry emphasized that those involved in serious organized crime will be brought to justice, stating:
"The chief constable has made it clear that those intent on being involved in serious and organized crime will be brought to justice. … This enforcement action underlines that commitment."
Since 2020, Operation Venetic’s Scottish arm has led to over 60 arrests following the National Crime Agency’s infiltration of a secret communications network used by criminals. Daniel himself suffered severe facial injuries in a high-speed chase through Glasgow in May 2017.
