Major Initiative Planned To Rehabilitate Drug Addicts in KP
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 31st Aug, 2026) A major initiative to treat and rehabilitate drug addicts and help them reintegrate into society is set to be launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Details of the Initiative:
- A meeting chaired by Peshawar division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud reviewed preparations for the early launch of the campaign.
- The drive will initially start in Peshawar and Khyber.
- The campaign will operate under a public-private partnership. District administrations, police, Excise Department, Anti-Narcotics Department, and Civil Defence will collaborate on joint operations to apprehend and transfer drug addicts found on the streets to rehabilitation centres.
- A proposal to extend the treatment period from four to five months was discussed for better results.
- Teams headed by assistant commissioners will conduct surprise inspections of rehabilitation centres to monitor patient treatment, food arrangements, and other facilities.
- The social welfare department is responsible for funding management during the campaign.

Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud commended Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s dedication to public welfare and his efforts to combat drug addiction in society. He instructed officials to ensure strict implementation of the chief minister’s directives, a swift launch, and optimal utilization of resources for campaign success.
