A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving over a crash that killed six people, including two children.

Shannen Morgan, Shane Roller and their daughters Rubie and Lillie died in the collision with husband and wife Christopher and Janine Barton on the A61 between Barnsley and Wakefield on 21 July 2024.

Christopher Cockell, 50, of Woolley Grange, is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court on 28 October charged with six counts of causing death by dangerous driving.

An inquest previously heard the car driven by Mr Roller collided head-on with a motorbike being ridden by Mr Barton at around 15:50 BST. The collision happened as Mr Barton attempted to overtake another vehicle on the single-carriageway road, which had a 50mph (80 km/h) speed limit.

The coroner's support officer described the scene as "a head-on impact [that] spun the car to the side of the road, where it caught fire."

Floral tributes were left at the scene in memory of the victims. An online fundraising page set up for the family of Ms Morgan raised over £400,000.

Mr Roller's father paid tribute to his "amazing" son and daughter-in-law, while colleagues at Athersley North Primary School described Rubie and Lillie as "a delight to teach."
