Mansour Bin Zayed Issues Resolution Approving Family Charter To Safeguard Children’s Best Interests

ABU DHABI (UrduPoint) – In his capacity as Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, has issued Resolution No. 43 of 2026 approving the Post-Separation Charter – Year of Family.
Aims of the Charter:
The charter aims to:
- Regulate the relationship between parents during disputes.
- Promote children’s psychological and social stability.
- Reinforce their best interests as the primary consideration in all family-related decisions.
Key Provisions:

Safe Environment: The charter consolidates a safe and stable family environment for children, ensuring both parents continue to play an active role in their upbringing.

Shared Care: It emphasizes that the dissolution of marriage does not end parenthood or diminish a child’s need for shared care, safe contact, and a stable environment.

Mutual Agreement: The document represents an agreement based on mutual understanding and respect, shielding children from parental conflict and its effects.

Children's Welfare: It prioritizes children’s welfare above all else and upholds the dignity of both parties.
Obligations of Parents:

Cooperation: Parents are obligated to cooperate in their children’s moral and religious upbringing, education, healthcare, and behavioral guidance.

Communication: The custodial parent must keep the other parent informed about academic reports, health status, and school activities. Both parties must co-operate and consult on major decisions.

Parental Role: Each parent faithfully fulfills their parental role, providing healthcare and education, safeguarding the child’s wellbeing, instilling values, and raising children in line with Emirati customs and traditions.

Visitation Rights: The charter ensures the other parent’s right to visitation and communication and requires them to be notified of significant matters concerning the child.
Obligations Towards Each Other:

Respect: Parents must refrain from disparaging each other in front of the children, maintain respect for and obedience to both parents, and avoid discussing the reasons for the dispute or divorce in the children’s presence.

Legal Rights: It prohibits using the children’s legal rights as leverage in the dispute.
