Chelsea's Emiliano Martinez to Return in 'A Few Weeks' After Operation
BBC Sport reports that Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will be back in action in "a few weeks" after undergoing an operation following a head collision during their 2-0 Premier League win against Everton.
Martinez, who joined Chelsea this summer from Aston Villa, suffered a broken jaw in the incident and required eight minutes of treatment before being taken to hospital. Xabi Alonso, Chelsea manager, revealed that Martinez was concussed.
The 34-year-old Argentine posted on social media: "Thanks to everyone for the messages. The operation went well. The most important thing is that we won, and kept a clean sheet. In a few weeks we'll be back."
Mike Penders, who made his Premier League debut in place of Martinez, is expected to start Chelsea's next three matches. They face Tottenham, Manchester United, and Liverpool (in a Carabao Cup tie) in their upcoming fixtures.
Alonso expressed his confidence in Penders, stating, "Mike has personality. He's brave and we have full trust with him. He did well when he came on."
