After a hearing at the Federal Constitutional Court on a petition seeking the restoration of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister’s office and Ali Amin Gandapur, senior journalist Matiullah Jan posed tough questions to National Assembly member Sher Afzal Marwat outside the court.
Media Talk Outside the Court:
Matiullah Jan recalled Sher Afzal Marwat’s past statements and inquired:
"You used to claim that you would immediately resign if Imran Khan asked you to. So, will you resign from your seat if Imran Khan asks you to? The votes you received were actually cast in Imran Khan’s name. Before coming to this constitutional court, should you not have resigned on principle and on moral grounds?"
Sher Afzal Marwat responded:
"A lot of water has flowed under the bridge. These people themselves made me their enemy; now they should face the consequences."
Questions on Imran Khan’s Sentences:
Matiullah Jan continued, questioning Marwat about the arguments in his court petition:
"Do you consider the sentences handed down to Imran Khan in various cases to be justified?"
Sher Afzal Marwat immediately admitted:
"All the sentences handed down to Imran Khan are completely wrong and based on injustice."
Matiullah Jan then pressed further:
"If all the sentences handed down to Imran Khan are wrong, then how did his nomination for chief minister become wrong? If you yourself acknowledge that his sentences are based on injustice, then why have you brought this petition to court by making Imran Khan’s disqualification the basis and relying on his sentences?"
Sher Afzal Marwat refused further comment, stating, "We do not talk!"
