Oli McBurnie & Seven Uncapped Players Named in Scotland Squad by New Coach Sebastien Pocognoli
BBC Sport Scotland reports that Hull City forward Oli McBurnie has been called up to the Scotland squad for the first time in five years, alongside seven other uncapped players. This is new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli's inaugural selection since succeeding Steve Clarke.
As expected, Stoke City defender Luke Graham and Sevilla striker Robbie Ure, who has recently joined from Swedish side Sirius, also make the cut.
The following players are making their debut:
- Luis Binks (Brondby)
- Colby Donovan (Celtic)
- Jon McCracken
- Josh McPake
- Stephen Welsh
Returning players:
- Scott Bain
- Josh Doig
- Lennon Miller
- James Wilson
Notable omissions: No mention of any player who was previously capped.
Key quotes:
"As expected, Stoke City defender Luke Graham and Sevilla striker Robbie Ure receive their first senior call-ups."
"McBurnie, 30, first featured for his country in 2018... He has never scored for Scotland but did net one of the penalties in the shootout that sealed a place at the delayed Euro 2020 finals."
Background:
Pocognoli was announced as Clarke's successor after Scotland failed to qualify for a major tournament. His task is to freshen up an aging squad, and these selections signal his intent to look towards the future.
