Scott McTominay: Minor Heart Procedure for Scotland and Napoli Midfielder
BBC Sport Scotland reports that Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay is set to undergo a minor heart procedure after being diagnosed with "a mild benign arrhythmia." The 29-year-old was substituted during Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como on Sunday.
Napoli announced the news, stating that McTominay will receive cardiac arrhythmia ablation to correct the issue. This procedure uses heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart, blocking faulty signals and restoring a typical heartbeat, as explained by the British Heart Foundation.
The club expects him to return to playing after the international break in early October, with McTominay himself expressing optimism on Instagram: "See you soon Napoli. I won’t take long."
However, this means he will likely miss several Scotland games under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli, including matches against Slovenia (home and away), North Macedonia, and Switzerland in the Nations League.
