Independent should be written alongside the names of elected lawmakers, while journalist Shehzad Iqbal says orders have also been issued barring Shafiullah Jan and Shahid Khatak from appearing on television; he says the directives came from somewhere other than PEMRA.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Sep, 2026) Journalist Shehzad Iqbal said in a vlog that media outlets have been directed not to identify PTI’s independent MPAs or MNAs as belonging to PTI, and to describe elected lawmakers as independent.

He stated that even if the long march issue is resolved, the establishment has already made a decision. He mentioned two options for the government: imposing governor’s rule or pursuing legal actions related to the May 9 attack on Radio Pakistan.

According to Iqbal, Sohail Afridi would be disqualified after being sentenced in the terrorism case arising from the attack, leading to another chief minister taking office. However, he emphasized that any new chief minister would have to follow Imran Khan's instructions and might face opposition from workers if shown leniency.

Iqbal further revealed new media directives banning Shafiullah Jan and Shahid Khatak from appearing on television without providing a stated reason. He clarified that the restrictions did not stem from their language about Maryam Nawaz Sharif but came from sources other than PEMRA.

He added that PTI lawmakers elected as independents cannot be referred to as PTI MPAs or MNAs but should instead be identified as independent.
