Medical Students Key to Pakistan’s Future, Says Governor Kundi
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Sep, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, on Thursday stated that investing in youth pursuing medical education was, in fact, an investment in the nation's future and society. He emphasized the need to offer more scholarships and opportunities to talented students.
He made these remarks while addressing a scholarship distribution ceremony as the chief guest at North West School of Medicine Hayatabad, where he distributed scholarships to 30 deserving students and congratulated them on their achievement.
The Governor commended the administration of North West School of Medicine for awarding scholarships based purely on merit, highlighting that securing scholarships reflects students' hard work and abilities. He expressed hope that the recipients would fulfill their professional duties with dedication in the future and contribute significantly to serving the people.
Governor Kundi noted that medical students can serve their province and country more effectively, adding that young healthcare professionals will play a crucial role in the nation's development and progress. He emphasized that Pakistan's and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's future is intertwined with youth, who need better opportunities today more than ever.
He further stated that educational institutions and society have a collective responsibility to encourage deserving and talented students, considering the sacrifices parents make to provide quality education to their children.
Talking to media persons after the ceremony, Governor Kundi discussed various issues. He mentioned that the Sindh government had welcomed Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi during his previous visit. He advised the KP Chief Minister to focus on major provincial concerns, including terrorism, unemployment, and law and order.
Regarding the strike by Levies and Khasadar personnel in merged tribal districts, Governor Kundi suggested that the Chief Minister send a delegation to meet the affected personnel to address their grievances.
He criticized provincial governments for delaying local government elections, stating that the PTI government had restricted local bodies' powers upon assuming power, while elected local representatives had repeatedly protested for funds and authority. He emphasized the need to empower local governments in all four provinces to resolve public issues at the grassroots level.
Governor Kundi also commented on Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in, stating that it was a peaceful protest and he participated in it per PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's directives. He welcomed the formation of a government committee for talks with Jamaat-e-Islami.
