Meeting Approves First Child Protection Policy Of KP
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 25, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission approved its first Child Protection policy in a 33rd meeting on Tuesday, after discussing various aspects.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister’s Adviser for Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment, Malak Liaqat Ali Khan, attended by Secretary Social Welfare Sharif Hussain, MPs, and concerned officials.
Discussions focused on the policy’s concerns regarding child protection, rights, and welfare, along with reviewing the commission’s role and child protection-related matters.
The policy aims to protect and support:
- Vulnerable children
- Orphaned and destitute children
- Children with disabilities
- Homeless children
- Street-connected children
- Children deprived of adequate parental care
It will establish mechanisms for:
- Preventing, identifying, reporting, protecting, rehabilitating, and monitoring child abuse.
- Identifying and registering children, conducting case assessments, protection planning, referrals to institutions, and follow-up monitoring.
- Evaluating prospective guardians, home environment reviews, guardian selection according to the child’s needs, judicial oversight, and post-guardianship monitoring.
CM aide Malak Liaqat Ali Khan emphasized that:
- Children’s safety is a government priority.
- Orphaned, destitute, and vulnerable children deserve a safe environment, adequate food, healthcare, education, and other necessities, with special focus on their physical, mental, and emotional development.
He called for strengthening the child protection system under the Child Protection and Welfare Act, 2010, ensuring timely intervention against all forms of abuse and exploitation, and enhancing the capacity of Child Protection Units.
