Mexico Issues Alert Over Three Tropical Cyclones
Mexican authorities have issued an alert over three tropical cyclones moving towards the country's coasts, two in the Pacific Ocean and one in the Gulf of Mexico, amid forecasts of adverse weather conditions in the coming days.
Fabián Vázquez Romaña, General Coordinator of Mexico's National Meteorological Service (SMN), said the three systems included:
- Tropical Storm Isaias in the Gulf of Mexico.
- A tropical depression south of the coast of Oaxaca, which could intensify into a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds up to 120 km/h and gusts reaching 150 km/h.
- Hurricane Rachel, located over 1,000 kilometres from the Mexican coast but expected to move closer again over the weekend.
The tropical depression could strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane before approaching the coasts of Jalisco, near Puerto Vallarta, on Sunday morning and moving towards states including Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa. These regions are warned to expect strong winds between Saturday and Monday, potentially exceeding 120 km/h.
