Minister Proposes Maritime Business Facilitation Centre For Exporters, Importers

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has proposed establishing a business facilitation centre to streamline port-related services for exporters and importers, aiming to cut delays and enhance trade procedures.

- The Maritime Business Facilitation Centre will bring together port-related organisations under one roof, enabling businesses to access multiple services without visiting multiple offices.
- A dedicated focal person from each organisation will assist businesses, while an integrated system will facilitate application and case processing.
- The initiative aims to reduce costs, improve fee collection, and enhance trade volumes, ultimately generating additional revenue from port services and associated logistics.
Chaudhry emphasised the benefits for all enterprises, particularly first-time users of port services. He called for a meeting with government departments and maritime stakeholders to gather input on the centre's structure and operations.
The meeting will include representatives from:
- Ministry of Maritime Affairs
- Karachi Port, Port Qasim, Gwadar Port
- Marine Fisheries Department and Korangi Fish Harbour
- Banks, shipping lines, clearing and forwarding agents
- Fisheries associations and other private-sector stakeholders
The minister directed officials to consult all stakeholders to ensure the centre meets the operational needs of exporters and importers.
