Mohsin Naqvi: KP Govt Withdraws From Security Commitments During Final Negotiations

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Oct, 2026)

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government had initially agreed to:

  • Sign a written agreement.
  • Submit an implementation plan within 72 hours.
  • Implement several security-related measures.

However, during the final phase of negotiations, the provincial government withdrew from these commitments.

Naqvi emphasized that security issues should not be politicized while the province grapples with a challenging law and order situation.

In a tweet on X, Naqvi outlined the key points of the proposed agreement:

  • Reconsidering the Police Act 2026 in light of the current security situation.
  • Ensuring security matters remain free from political interference.
  • Preventing terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens.
  • Condemning the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA), and all other terrorist groups.
  • Supporting the national policy regarding Afghan refugees, including their repatriation and dismantling of camps.
  • Refraining from contact with the Interim Afghan Government.
  • Providing substantial funding for counterterrorism operations and the police force.
  • Strengthening cooperation with the Armed Forces.
  • Implementing the National Action Plan in the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and merged districts.

Naqvi expressed disappointment that the KP government backed out of these commitments at the last minute, stating they should focus on addressing security challenges rather than politicizing them.
