Mohsin Naqvi: KP Govt Withdraws From Security Commitments During Final Negotiations
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Oct, 2026)
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government had agreed to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours regarding several security-related measures. However, during the final phase of negotiations last night, the provincial government backed out of these commitments.
Naqvi emphasized that security issues should not be politicized while the province grapples with a war-like situation. In a tweet on X, he detailed the proposed agreement's key areas:
- Reconsidering the Police Act 2026 in light of the security situation and the need to keep security matters free from political interference.
- Preventing terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens throughout the province.
- Condemning Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA), and all other terrorist groups.
- Supporting the national policy regarding Afghan refugees, including their repatriation and dismantling of Afghan camps in KP.
- No contact with the Interim Afghan Government.
- Substantial funding for counterterrorism operations and the police force.
- Provincial ownership of counterterrorism measures and stronger cooperation with the Armed Forces.
- Implementation of the National Action Plan as part of a broader counterterrorism strategy.
Despite agreeing to these measures and committing to an implementation plan, Naqvi reported that the KP Government withdrew from their commitments during final negotiations. He reiterated his belief that security matters should remain non-political while the province continues to face significant challenges.
