A target was set to procure 2.5 million tonnes of wheat, but records show only 160,000 tonnes, raising questions over the remaining 2.34 million tonnes and 11 patwari-backed private companies, says the PTI leader in an X post.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Oct, 2026) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Monis Elahi has claimed that an alleged multibillion-rupee scandal and record corruption emerged in Punjab’s official wheat procurement process.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Elahi strongly criticised the Punjab government over wheat procurement, calling it the biggest wheat robbery in Punjab’s history. Presenting figures against the provincial government, he raised serious questions about official transparency and administrative performance.

Elahi said Punjab had set a major target to procure 2.5 million tonnes of wheat, but official records and documents showed that only 160,000 tonnes had been procured.

He questioned where the record of the remaining 2.34 million tonnes had disappeared and where the wheat had ultimately gone.

He further alleged that the 11 private companies and influential individuals allegedly favoured by the patwari administration and involved in the serious irregularity would be held accountable. He said ordinary and poor citizens were facing severe difficulties because of high bread prices and inflation, while the “patwari government” continued to evade responsibility for the major financial irregularity and avoided facing the public.

The PTI leader demanded a transparent, high-level investigation into the alleged irregularities in wheat procurement and its records so that the truth could be brought before the public. He called for those and the private companies allegedly involved in depriving poor people of their rights to be exposed and brought under the law, saying the wheat crisis and alleged corruption were directly affecting people’s lives and food security.
