European countries desire a pause to grant Ukraine time to rearm and replenish its military reserves, while an agreement ending the conflict permanently is necessary, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Lavrov stated:

"Russia is ready for talks but has no intention of halting its military operations at any stage during negotiations."

He accused European nations of seeking a pause in the war to allow Ukraine to rebuild its military capabilities. Lavrov advocated for negotiations towards lasting peace but emphasized the need for an agreement bringing a permanent end to the conflict rather than merely a ceasefire.

These remarks came following Lavrov's meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York, where they discussed the Russia-Ukraine war and bilateral relations.

UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo, meanwhile, expressed grave concerns:

"The Ukraine war is entering a dangerous phase, with growing risks of intensified attacks, civilian deaths, and regional tensions. She called for an immediate, complete, and unconditional ceasefire."

The war continues despite attempts to establish ceasefires, with both sides making conflicting claims about casualties and financial losses.
