Employees of the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) in Dera Ismail Khan (DIKhan) took to the streets on Thursday, protesting outside the Administration Block and later at the DHQ Teaching Hospital premises. Their demands centre around approval of their service structure, a salary increase, and the payment of other financial benefits.

The protest was a collective effort from doctors, clerical staff, nursing staff, paramedics, pharmacists, storekeepers, and Class-IV employees from various hospitals and colleges within the region. They expressed frustration over what they considered repeated broken promises from the administration regarding their demands, which have been ongoing for seven to eight years.

During the protest, the Hospital Director engaged with the demonstrators, offering discussions on their concerns. The employees insisted on more than just verbal assurances, demanding concrete steps towards resolving their issues.

They outlined specific requests:

  • Approval of a comprehensive service structure.
  • A 30% increase in salaries for the current year.
  • Financial benefits and packages comparable to other employees.

Threatening further action, the employees announced a boycott of services starting from Friday and planned to hold a sit-in at the Board of Governors (BOG) Secretariat until their demands are met through formal notifications. They also urged the district administration to intervene and facilitate negotiations between them and the MTI administration for an agreeable resolution.
