NA Members Raise Ayat Noor Case, Demand Action

Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Babar Nawaz Khan and Parliamentary Secretary for National food Security and Research Shaista Khan on Tuesday raised the case of five-year-old Ayat Noor in the National Assembly.
Speaking in the house, both lawmakers expressed grief over the alleged sexual assault and killing of the five-year-old girl, who had been missing for 15 days.
Shaista Khan stated that no official statement had been issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi regarding the issue. She added that the child’s body was found on Monday (August 24), leaving them deeply saddened once again.
She continued, "I request you from this floor that today another daughter of the nation was brutally murdered."
Babar Nawaz also addressed the case of Ayat Noor. He noted the National Assembly's previous efforts in the Zainab case through the Standing Committee on Human Rights and then-Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif's involvement.
He appealed to the National Assembly to stand with the people of Haripur and support the family of Ayat Noor, saying, "Today, Haripur is looking towards all of you. Stand with us and become the companions of these oppressed people."
Babar Nawaz further advocated for a separate province for the Hazara region, claiming its people no longer desired to remain under the current provincial setup. He emphasized their desire for a distinct administrative unit and province, stating, "We need a separate unit and a separate province. We do not want to live with them."
He criticized the authorities' absence at Ayat Noor's funeral, suggesting it reflected their lack of care for the area's people. Babar Nawaz described the region as peaceful and expressed his belief that its inhabitants no longer wanted to be part of the existing provincial arrangement.
