NA Refers Layyah River Erosion Issue to Committee
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - August 25, 2026) - Deputy Speaker National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah on Tuesday referred a calling attention notice regarding continuous river erosion and the resulting flood threat in District Layyah, Punjab, to the relevant committee.
Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Mueen Wattoo explained that approximately 300,000 cusecs of water was flowing due to high water levels. He assured that necessary measures would be taken once the water level receded, emphasizing that the administration was actively working on the situation.
Wattoo acknowledged and respected the member's concerns regarding affected individuals, assuring the House that compensation had been provided to those impacted by previous floods. He promised to look into any outstanding compensation issues.
When asked about funds, the minister noted the current difficulty posed by exceptionally high water flow, around 350,000 cusecs. He stated that provincial governments had contributed compensation from their own resources, but further details could be provided after a review.
The minister agreed to refer the matter to the Standing Committee for further consideration and committed to obtaining relevant information for the committee. The deputy speaker confirmed that the matter had been referred to the committee, and the concerned member could raise it there after suitable preparations.
