Nottingham NHS Trust Maternity Data Loss During IT Work
Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust, responsible for City Hospital, revealed that historical maternity records were accidentally overwritten due to "human error." This incident involves data from September 2011 to November 2022.
While the information was restored, details on who accessed the records during this period remain lost. A police investigation into a missing data file containing hundreds of cases is ongoing, with a focus on its potential connection to Operation Perth, the probe into deaths and injuries linked to maternity care at NUH's City Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre.
"At present, no crime has been identified," stated Deputy Chief Constable Rob Griffin of Operation Perth. An analysis of the digital process is underway, with a database copy expected during the week. The full impact on the investigation remains under assessment.
This latest error follows the June publication of a review highlighting over 500 cases of potential avoidable harm or deaths due to systemic failures within NUH's maternity services.
