The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Sargodha has arrested a Nikah registrar allegedly red-handed while receiving a Rs10,000 bribe in Jauharabad on Friday.
According to a press release from the ACE office, the operation was led by the ACE Sargodha raiding team, supervised by Circle Officer Azhar Javed Bajwa and Judicial Magistrate Ahmad Waqar.
The accused, identified as Hafiz Muhammad Abdul Rasheed, is the Nikah Registrar of Jauharabad. He is accused of demanding Rs10,000 to correct the marital status entered in a Nikah Nama.
The ACE stated that the registrar had incorrectly recorded the marital status of an individual as “unmarried” instead of “married” in the Nikah Nama and subsequently asked for Rs10,000 to make the correction.
During the operation, the ACE team allegedly recovered marked currency notes from the accused in the presence of the Judicial Magistrate.
A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway.
