NJAC Reviews E-filing Strategy for One Case, One Identity

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - September 24, 2026) - National Judicial Automation Committee (NJAC) has reviewed a strategy to introduce e-filing of cases and implement a "One Case, One Identity" system, ensuring a unique identity for every case throughout its judicial process.

Meeting Details:

The meeting was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi. It discussed proposed standard templates for a uniform digital filing process across the country's judicial system.

E-filing Pilot Project:

Initially, e-filing will be launched on a pilot basis for family cases in selected courts throughout all provinces and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

UCIN Initiative:

The committee reviewed the "One Case, One Identity" (UCIN) initiative, which assigns a unique identity to each case. Relevant stakeholders have been consulted, and a preliminary draft has been shared with NJAC for review and refinement before submission to the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee (NJPMC).

E-filing Template:

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Chairman of NJAC, led discussions on the e-filing template. He emphasized the need for a single, comprehensive template without provincial variations, applicable across all provinces and ICT, and in line with the Code of Civil Procedure. The template should be user-friendly for judges, court staff, advocates, and litigants.

Mazhar requested members to examine the template from legal and operational perspectives and submit suggestions within two weeks. The goal is to create a secure and user-friendly framework for consistent implementation across jurisdictions.

Judicial Data Dashboard:

The committee also reviewed a recently launched dashboard for real-time monitoring of judicial data. High Courts are participating, regularly updating the data. However, concerns were raised regarding delays in receiving data from Prison Departments, impacting real-time monitoring. Justice Mazhar directed the Secretary of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan to address this issue promptly and improve the reporting mechanism.

Meeting Attendees:

In-person attendees included Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan of the Islamabad High Court; along with representatives from the Supreme Court and the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan. Online participants were Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad, Justice Khalid Ishaq (Lahore High Court), Justice Muhammad Faisal Kamal Alam, Justice Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry (Sindh High Court), Justice Wiqar Ahmad, and Justice Muhammad Faheem Wali (Peshawar High Court).
